Over the course, of over eight hundred pages or so, Samantha Shannon introduces us to a world full of interesting and complex characters. What I didn’t expect from this behemoth of a book was for it to be so character driven. I’m a sucker for a good epic fantasy, especially with magic and dragons thrown into the mix. I picked it up last year because one, look at that gorgeous cover, and two, dragons.

The Priory of the Orange Tree was like that for me. You reach the end, put the book down and try to figure out how life continues without these characters you’ve grown to love so much. The sign of a good story, for me, is one that leaves you aching for more.
