Cold seeping into his legs where they pressed against the iron, Peter inhaled the fresh air, the refreshing scent of pine drawn deep within his lungs. He was in a park? Looking around with poorly hidden distress, Peter took in his surroundings with wide eyes he couldn’t remember leaving the shop, never mind arriving… here. His feet carried him through the people, past the concrete and into a vast, green expanse. Or more a body with a troubled soul watching with detached awareness. Had Peter’s body not been moving without conscious thought, he may have enjoyed the thrill of such exertion but right now, he was lost. His heart pounded loudly above the ringing, working double time, a fast, staccato rhythm. He pushed hard, and then harder, legs rapidly beginning to itch with a familiar ache. He ran with abandon, with a recklessness that spider-man was born with, a desperation he’d carried even longer. So Peter Parker did what Peter Parker did best: he ran. The world was morphing, twisting, growing blurry like an image dropping in resolution. It was like the street was closing in on him, brick walls towering and bending over, mocking him, trapping him. Stumbling around outside, his spider-senses flared dully, his ears ringing painfully as a cyclist knocked him backwards, the bustle around him slowly morphing to a dull, incessant buzz. Peter’s world was tilting as he rushed out of the shop, a heady bout of vertigo racking his brain. The air was too thick, unbreathable, tangible, sickening. Nothing he could do provided any blissful relief from the scorching pain inside.

Flooding his lungs, sloshing around like molten, liquid metal, burning his insides. “I am human, and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does.”īreath rushing in and out, gaping gasps and wheezes, pants turning wet from tears.
